Nowhere in Hindu scripture is it said that a wife should be a slave to her husband but that would appear to be the case if she misunderstood the meaning of this sloka. What slog is that? Let's find out now from this post. Slogam:
Karyeshu Dasi; Karaneshu Mandhiri Rupeshu Lakshmi; Kshamaya Daritri Sneha Sa Mata; Sayane tu vejya shat karma yukto; Kula Dharma Pathini
The first line in this verse says that the wife should behave like Dasi. Although the word here is misleading, the comments made in it are not misleading.
They imply that any woman should take care of her husband with full commitment in order to receive his full love. Only then will his wife be around the world that he is.
Her word will count and act as scripture. The second line says to be like the minister in giving advice. It is said that a woman has more responsibility than a man in a family.
They say that a husband can be a real wife only if he is a minister and realizes the pros and cons. The third line says to look like Lakshmi in the letter.
Only the husband should see the wife. Other men say that the wife should be dressed like Mahalakshmi if she wants to look like a stepmother.
No gentleman would even look at her upright if she took a straight face, put on a bouquet, a tilak on her forehead, put on a lot of bracelets on her hands, dressed so that her body parts were not visible, and displayed the appearance of Sakshat Mahalakshmi.
Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person. The fourth line says that Puma should be the goddess of patience.
They say that no matter how angry the husband is, the wife should be patient and be a tool to quell that anger and not pour oil on the burning fire and leave the house in two.
According to the saying that the earth will be subdued, the family can rule here if the wife is patient. In the fifth line, the mother should feed her unborn child as if she were feeding rice to her husband.
Husband and children should be treated equally. Hug him from being a mother and a good friend. This sloka says that if the wife knows the qualities of her husband and looks at everything and acts accordingly, then she is the true Kula Dharma Pathini.
That is not to say that a wife should be a slave to her husband. The love you show for your husband will be the solution to all your problems.
Women can understand the meaning of this if they think a little deeper than thinking about these superficially.
