The image of Ganesha which may be in the prayer room should be kept clean.  If you have a white Ganesha in your house it is very good to recite this mantra before that Ganesha.  

Those who are not at home with the Vellerukkan Ganesha idol can usually recite this mantra before the image of Ganesha.  Before the image of Ganesha, pour eucalyptus oil on an earthen lamp and light a lamp, and you too should sit on a rug in the prayer room.
